The Center for Research and Communication (CRC) recently published a historical book on the much-studied national hero Jose Rizal and his Irish partner Josephine Bracken, whom the authors propose as his legitimate wife.

Romance and Revolution by historians Fr. Luis Lisa and Fr. Javier de Pedro further explore the letters of Bracken to Rizal, whose 150th year of birth is celebrated by the nation this month. The authors aim to “contribute to a better understanding of who Jose Rizal and Josephine Bracken were, and their significance to the men and women of our time.”

The book was launched in February together with two other notable titles: Catholic Mass Media Awardee Dr. Esther Esteban’s The Work of Children and a Tongues of Men, Dreams of Angels, collection of poetry by the late Fr. Marciano Guzman, a direct descendant of Rizal.

Present at the event was Commission on Higher Education chairman Patricia Licuanan, economist Bernardo Villegas, UA&P president Jose Maria Mariano and educators from the University’s history department. #
