The expected 400 participants at a Cagayan de Oro conference on home-school collaboration ballooned to 700, as teachers and parents trooped to the Xavier Sports & Country Club in Cagayan de Oro City for the “Family Congress for Home-School Collaboration: On the character and human sexuality education of our youth” over the weekend.

The August 19-20 event, organized by Alalay sa Pamilya at Bayan Foundation, Educhild Foundation, and A. Brown Company, in cooperation with the Department of Education (DepEd), brought together public school faculty and management as well as parents from the different areas of Region 10, with a dozen or so educators from private schools and some college students joining in.

“Parents teach children. Teachers teach students, not subjects,” was one of the crucial ideas raised and discussed by University of Asia and the Pacific Board member and Associate Professor Dr. Antonio Torralba, who was the speaker for the two-day activity.
