The first UBL season is finally over! And it ends with a bang as teams IMC and MScM duked it out in the championship–with IMC as victors of the first ever UBL season!

The smaller and faster IMC team emerged as champions over the towering players MScM team with a convincing 90-82 victory. This leaves them undefeated with a flawless record of 6-0 in the first UBL season.

The UA&P multipurpose court was packed with student and staff spectators, making the relatively small spaces as dynamic as the Araneta Coliseum The crowds went wild cheering for their teams, made posters and banners for their players, and lost their voices from shouted the whole forty minutes of the game.

The game was intense from start to finish, where size was pitted against speed. MScM, led by the center Mike Sy who stood hulking over  other players in the court and finished with 23 points. Silas Del Prado also chipped in 18 points but went cold in the second half. This opened the doors for Joseph Akol to step-up as he was red hot from the field scoring 18 points and shooting 5/8 from beyond the arch.

But this powerful combination proved inadequate to stop the IMC team. The IMC offense led by the IMC freshman triumvirate of Xer Villanueva, Mac Valdez, and Troy Bautista collected 30, 22, and 14 points respectively. Villanueva was simply unstoppable, while Mac Valdez crashed the boards and scored from anywhere in the court.

What made IMC more powerful was the IMC crowd that fueled their team’s runs, making loud statements as they are undefeated and now the team to beat in the University.

This is only the first season of the UBL and yet it is already full of memorable moments. Expect the coming seasons to be more exciting as we further improve the league. #
