People in Ortigas Center marked the start of Christmas with the loud and luminous lighting ceremony of the giant Christmas trees at the intersection of San Miguel and Julia Vargas Avenues last December 1.The event also began the creche exhibition of the Belenistas de Ortigas,  participants of the belen-making contest organized by UA&P and the Ortigas Center Association, Inc. (OCAI).

With more than 150 people in attendance — including Pasig City Mayor Roberto Eusebio Jr. and his wife Belen — the event aimed to symbolize the unity of the Pasig-Mandaluyong business district in celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ.

Other attendees included chairpersons of different barangays: Hon. Joselito de la Merced (Brgy. San Antonio), Hon. Jessie Santiago (Brgy. Ugong), and Hon. Milagros Santos (Brgy. Wack-Wack). Also present were OCAI President George Edwin Lee, UA&P Center for Student Affairs Head Rene Ledesma, and winners of Miss Earth 2010 beauty pageant.

The UA&P Chorale also serenaded the crowd before the countdown and ceremonial lighting of the trees.

Winners of Belenistas de Ortigas will be awarded on December 14 at the culminating program at UA&P. #
