ABEP alum now Globe CIO

Ayala-owned operator Globe Telecom has announced the appointment of IT veteran Henry Rhoel R. Aguda as its new chief information officer effective January 1, 2012.

Aguda, who served as chief technology officer of GSIS prior to his new role, will be heading Globe’s information systems group and will provide technology leadership for developing and implementing information technology (IT) initiatives.

Aguda holds over two decades of experience in the IT profession, of which 13 years were devoted to the telecommunications industry.

His tour of duty included holding top IT positions at Digitel Philippines, Nextel Communications Philippines, and Bayan Telecommunications.

He also had stints at WeServ of Fujitsu Philippines and Corporate Information Solutions, a subsidiary of power firm Meralco.

In 2010, Aguda was awarded Asean CIO of the Year Award for government sector by the International Data Group (IDG) for the turnaround of GSIS services.

He earned his Masters degree in Applied Business Economics from the University of Asia and the Pacific, and his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of the Philippines.

At Globe, Aguda is expected to lead the telco’s IT system transformation systems over the next two years.

The company will be investing $90 million to complete the IT transformation initiative, with a target completion over a period of 24-36 months.
