Business expert and UA&P lecturer Anthony Brendan Yu passed away July 7 after a massive heart attack. He was 50.

Mr. Anthony Brendan Yu

Yu was among the Entrepreneurial Management (EM) Program’s part-time faculty members and business coaches.

Ranked among the country’s top gurus in entrepreneurship, cost management, and marketing, Yu was president of several companies and chairman of the Jollibee Franchisees Association. In 2008, Jollibee Foods Corporation honored him as “Franchisee of the Year (2007).”

Yet his students remember him not so much for his achievements, but for the inspiration he imparted to them.

In his Facebook wall, EM senior Nathan Flores said that “all [Yu] wanted of us is to grow, to mature, and to become the best person we could be.”

“[He] always inspired us to do our best in everything,” Flores added.

Yu’s Facebook wall is now teeming with messages from students and friends.

IMC student Nica Monzon thanked Yu “for always being there, for always pushing me to be the best student I can be.”

Meanwhile EM student Dally Jean Jamandre posted, “I may not understand the reason why it had to happen, but the words of wisdom you left me will always be remembered.”

Most of the ‘wall posts’ recall Yu’s optimism and kindness to his students.

Another EM student, Jo Serrano, recalled a plea from his late teacher: “I can’t force you to love me back… but please don’t force me to stop loving you.”

Yu’s wake is at the Arlington Memorial Chapels in Quezon City. Interment will be at the Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque City, July 14 (Saturday) after the 12:30 pm Mass at the Arlington Memorial Chapels.
