Mentoring at UA&P

The University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P) prepares for two education conferences which will pool the institution’s professors and pioneering experts on values education and mentoring.

The First National Conference on Student Mentoring on September 13 and 14 dwells on the theme “Forming young minds and hearts: Towards integrative coaching, counseling and mentoring” and seeks to share with high school teachers, school administrators, counselors, and parents UA&P’s experiences from its innovative mentoring program.

The conference, to be set at the Li Seng Giap Auditorium in UA&P’s Ortigas Center campus, aims to relate schools’ various roles in forming students with the practice of mentoring to achieve a holistic or integral education.

Speakers such as UA&P faculty members Dr. Gladys Golo and Dr. Paul Dumol,  mentoring consultants Dr. Severina Villegas and Dr. Gabriel Dy-Liacco, and guidance counselor James Lactao will also talk about the characteristics of today’s adolescents and special issues that concern them.  Dr. Josemaria Mariano will give the keynote address on Towards Integrative Coaching, Counseling, and Mentoring.

The university will also hold the National Conference on Revisiting Ideals of Family and Society on November 11 to 14 at the Ecotech Conference Center in Cebu City.

The three-day event, an offshoot of the erstwhile UA&P degree program Master of Arts in Values Education or MAVE, is where alumni, students and guests can gather to relearn about the family as “the seedbed of culture and society,” a theme in keeping with the program’s foundations.

Conference organizers said in a statement that under the MAVE program, “everyone became an avid and delightful learner of the deepest values, motivations and aspirations, humanity and transcendence of the human person.”

The event will be graced by prestigious speakers such as former finance secretary Dr. Jesus Estanislao, award-winning author Dr. Esther Esteban, development expert Paul Schaefer, respected educators Dr. Antonio Torralba, Dr. Severina Villegas and Dr. Ernesto Grio, UA&P founder and economist Dr. Bernardo Villegas, and education secretary Armin Luistro.
