Belenistas de Ortigas launched at UA&P

Last year’s winning belen by the Ortigas Building.

It’s that time of the year once again, and that means another round of Belenistas de Ortigas, the current iteration of which was launched recently at the UA&P campus. Now on its second year, the belen-making contest kicked off with a festive get-together at the University and the announcement of this year’s theme: “Him Whose Birth the Angels Sing, Come Adore on Bended Knee.”

A collaborative effort initiated by the University in partnership with Ortigas Center Association, Inc. (OCAI) and Barangay San Antonio (BSA), Pasig City, the friendly competition aims to create a “belen town” within Ortigas Center that will not just become a tourist destination but also promote Christian values amongst the members of the community. UA&P President Dr. Jose Maria Mariano was present along with Kag. Jun Sistoso of Barangay San Antonio and OCAI’s Liza Silerio to talk in behalf of the organizers during the launch.

Dr. Jose Maria Mariano, Kag. Jun Sistoso of Barangay San Antonio and OCAI’s Liza Silerio sign the MOA for Belenistas de Ortigas.

The opening ceremonies and lighting of Ortigas Center will be held on December 3 at the corner of Doña Julia Vargas Avenue and ADB Avenue, marking the start of the viewing period for the Belens until January 13 of next year. A culminating activity will be held at UA&P on December 12 to award the winners and celebrate the Christmas season with a choral festival.

A column by Dr. Bernardo Villegas about last year’s competition, which was won by Ortigas Building, may be read here.
