Christmas came loud and bright at the opening of this year’s Belenistas de Ortigas outdoor belen-making contest, Monday evening.

Christmas carols and fireworks interrupted the traffic at the intersection of Doña Julia Vargas and ADB Avenues, where more than a hundred people had gathered. Giant Christmas trees, belen sets, and lanterns around the business district were illuminated.

The lighting ceremony was led by Ortigas Center Association President George Edwin Lee; Pasig City Administrator Atty. Reynaldo Dionisio, representing Pasig City Mayor Robert Eusebio; and Brgy. San Antonio Councilor Raymond Lising, representing Barangay Chairman Joselito dela Merced. UA&P President Jose Maria Mariano also attended the event.

Atty. Dionisio praised the competition for being a proof of how Christmas is deeply embedded in the life of the Filipino.

Councilor Lising, on the other hand, lauded the activity as a unifying collaboration of the different sectors in Ortigas—local government, business, and academe.

The UA&P Chorale also serenaded the audience with several Christmas songs.

Participants of this year’s Belenistas de Ortigas are the following:

  1. Emerald Building (F. Ortigas Ave. – formerly Emerald Ave.)
