Smiles to the World

Chilean Ambassador Roberto Mayorga, who initiated the project last year, announced this in an email sent to co-organizers.

Deadline of submission of entries has also been extended to the end of April 2013.

The contest, a follow-up to the national essay contest on calidad humana last year, will focus on the cheerfulness of Filipinos.

Entries should be “geared towards the cultivation of [the virtue of cheerfulness], avoiding its debilitation, and sharing [it] with other countries.”

The competition’s website translates calidad humana as “human compassion, sense of humaneness, strength of character, and human tone.”

Organizers also include UA&P, Embassy of Brazil, Cultural Center of the Philippines, University of Santo Tomas, University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, and the Philippine STAR.
