kia-motors-logoColumbian Autocar Corporation (CAC), the assembler and exclusive Philippine distributor of the global automotive brand KIA vehicles and owner of the KIA Sorento PBA basketball team, will donate P15 million for the remodelling and consolidation project of the UA&P School of Sciences and Engineering (SSE) facilities this year.

The project, dubbed TRANSSEFORMATION 2015, will consolidate the offices of SSE faculty and staff, the laboratories, and the research and development (R&D) facilities for its students on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th floors of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Building of UA&P.

CAC and UA&P will sign the Deed of Donation on February 6, Friday, at 4:00 p.m. at the ALB Living Room of UA&P. CAC President Mrs. Ginia Domingo and UA&P President Dr. Jose Maria G. Mariano will be the main signatories. To sign as witnesses are CAC Chairman and Palawan Governor Jose Ch. Alvarez, a long-time friend and benefactor of UA&P, and SSE Dean Dr. Florencio O. Gaa.

The project is part of SSE’s contribution to UA&P’s 2018 vision, during which SSE aims to prepare itself to accommodate a student population of 480 students in its BS and MS degree program offerings in Information Technology, Applied Mathematics, and Industrial Engineering.

A key goal of TRANSSEFORMATION 2015 is to facilitate multidisciplinary interaction among SSE faculty members and among the faculties of other UA&P Schools, an integral and critical component of SSE’s long-term mission to educate and train renaissance scientists and engineers.

TRANSSEFORMATION 2015 shall involve the total remodelling and reconstruction of the whole 5th floor of CAS, the upgrading and transfer of the IT laboratories on the 3rd floor, the refurbishing of the sciences and engineering laboratories on the 4th floor, and the construction of R&D project rooms and establishment of the Corporate Partnerships Office on the 5th floor, which will also house enough offices for the SSE faculty and staff for the next five years.

The construction project is scheduled to end by December 2015, after which these facilities will be referred to as ALVAREZ HALL in honor of Gov. Alvarez’s eldest son, the late Jose “Jim” R. Alvarez Jr., a UA&P ABEP alumnus who passed away in a car accident in August 2013 and who, at his untimely death, was a key CAC executive.
