Last June 15, the University of Asia and the Pacific (UA&P) welcomed the new school year under new leadership when it held its annual opening rites ceremony officially marking the start of classes for 2015-2016. The highlight of the ceremony was the installation of Dr. Winston Conrad B. Padojinog who succeeded Dr. Jose Maria G. Mariano as UA&P’s fourth University President. Several officials from other academic institutions, the business sector, local and national government as well as the diplomatic community attended in support of Dr. Padojinog as he formally took the reins of UA&P and opened the academic year.

Having a solid reputation as an industrial economist and strategic management expert, Dr. Padojinog has worked as business strategy consultant and policy adviser of various private corporations, local government units, national government agencies, companies and industries. He also has a proven track record as a leader who works well within an environment of collaboration and unity of purpose.

Prior to taking the role of University President, Dr. Padojinog served as the Dean of UA&P’s School of Management (SMN) since 2011. He held key positions in the Faculty of Sciences and Technology and the School of Economics before joining SMN in 2009 as Vice Dean. In the last four years, he has been deeply involved in the International Faculty of SMN’s Advanced Management Program in cooperation with IESE Business School, Barcelona, Spain. He is highly regarded and much admired in the University which he has served since 1989 as a Graduate Staff Member when UA&P was still known as the Center for Research and Communication (CRC).

Dr. Padojinog earned his Doctor of Business Administration degree from De La Salle University and his Master of Science in Industrial Economics from the Center for Research and Communication (CRC). He has a bachelor’s degree in economics and management from the University of the Philippines – Visayas. He is 47 years old and is married to Prima Rosa Nenita Solas. They have a 13-year-old daughter, Regina Maria.

UA&P started almost 50 years ago as CRC, a think-tank that conducted research and offered graduate courses in economics and management. It was awarded university status and rechristened the University of Asia and the Pacific in 1995, and has since increased the breadth of its programs and offerings. Its brand of education puts due emphasis on the individual, the family, the community, and the Asia-Pacific region.
