With futsal fast becoming the Philippines’ next big sport, UA&P has been a pioneer in contributing to its development in the country by providing avenues for competition as a way of promoting positive values in the youth. On August 15, the University will be kicking off its latest endeavor in the sport with the UA&P Inter-Collegiate Futsal Tournament (ICFT) organized in partnership with the Philippine Football Federation.
With the ICFT, the university will be able to not only provide college athletes an opportunity for high-level futsal competition, but also build on its efforts of using the sport to encourage values such as sportsmanship and camaraderie.
Among the competitors so far are teams from UA&P, Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, Enderun Colleges, University of Makati, and Central Luzon State University. The tournament will begin with the opening ceremony on August 15 with matches every Saturday until the semi-finals on September 19 and the championship on September 26.
Matches will take place at the UA&P Parking and Sports Building, possibly the first and only facility in the country with a regulation futsal court.
The tournament is open to futsal teams consisting of 15 male players ages 17-24 representing a college or university. The registration forms may be downloaded here, and the rules and regulations may be read here.
Aside from developing its own highly competitive futsal varsity teams, among UA&P’s other futsal-related activities is the Ambassadors Cup Tournament which aims to instill values among children from underprivileged communities through futsal training and competition. UA&P held its second season earlier this year with the participation of 11 different embassies in the Philippines.
