The fifth World Youth Alliance Asia Pacific Emerging Leaders Conference took place at UA&P last October 20-22 with the stated aim of contributing to solution to the world’s environmental problems. The Emerging Leaders Conference is an annual event of the youth-led World Youth Alliance Asia-Pacific and seeks to enable young people from diverse backgrounds to connect and share ideas in response to today’s important issues.
This year’s conference attracted nearly 200 young people from the region, with most from the host country and the rest from Vietnam, China, Indonesia, Nepal, South Korea and East Timor. Participants, comprising young leaders aged between 15 and 30 years, learned from experts on how innovations can make a difference. Among the speakers was UA&P trustee Dr. Antonio Torralba.
Various seminars, workshops and panel sessions were held in line with the theme “Upgrading Earth: Maximizing Innovation for People and Planet.” Topics ranged from innovation for social good, sustainable housing and transportation, art for social impact, campaign-building, wildlife preservation, to green-business management.
The United States-based Youth Alliance is a nongovernmental organization empowering young people to promote human dignity though advocacy, education and culture. The organization has regional offices in Africa, Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and North America.
