The Samsung Korean Studies Program (SKSP) was inaugurated in December 2011 at the UA&P College of Arts and Sciences with a grant from the Samsung Group for the professorial and research chair. In July 2013, SKSP was selected by the Academy of Korean Studies as a recipient of its three-year Overseas Korean Studies Incubation Program (OKSIP) through which SKSP conducts research, conferences, seminars, and networking in the Korean studies academe. Prof. Djun Kil Kim, who has chaired SKSP since the inauguration, has also been charged as the project director of OKSIP since 2013.

Given the scholarly attraction in developing countries, including the Philippines, toward South Korea’s transformation during the past decades, the program would contribute to promoting Korean Studies in the Philippine and Southeast Asian academe.
