AB in Humanities
AB Humanities is an interdisciplinary course that studies the human person and experience through the Arts, Literature, History, and Philosophy. An AB Humanities student is trained to use all four in approaching any discourse or issue, knowing when to switch perspectives and when to use said disciplines together. Our students thus cultivate a cognitive skillset that encompasses appreciation, understanding, analysis, interpretation, evaluation, and intellectual or artistic creation. At the same time, the program’s emphasis on the integration of the four perspectives encourages our students in the pursuit of wisdom.
Graduates of the AB Humanities program are prepared to engage in big picture thinking, disciplinary flexibility and adaptability, and guard themselves against specialization bias and reduction. This training equips them to innovate and develop new ideas that respond to the constantly changing socio-cultural landscape–an advantage in almost any field.
While the degree allows for a wide range of career opportunities, our AB Humanities graduates have primarily found employment in human resources, copywriting and editing, law, corporate consulting, cultural conservation and heritage, art and art management, education and research, theater, and media and communications.
AB in Health Humanities
Health Humanities is a multidisciplinary course that sets the foundation for students who want to pursue medicine and healthcare. The study of the Natural Sciences, alongside Arts, History, Literature, and Philosophy, grounds the student in a holistic view of the human person possessing dignity, values, and the right to human flourishing and fulfillment. The pandemic demonstrated the indispensability of this mindset and disposition in current healthcare practice.
The UA&P Health Humanities Program provides its students with a distinct integral education which develops in them a whole-person perspective, which will be their cutting edge as future professionals in the field of healthcare that is moving toward patient-centered care.
Students who pursue a Health Humanities major or minor, along with required science courses outside the program, will be exceptionally well-prepared for admission to medical school or to other health science graduate programs. This program is also ideal for students who have an interest in law school, in earning a graduate degree in public health, or in pursuing an administrative career in the healthcare industry. Most Health Humanities programs are in the UK, notably in the University College London and University of Nottingham.
The recognized founder of Health Humanities is Prof. Paul Crawford, who is very active in the International Health Humanities Network.
Bachelor of Arts in Humanities with specialization in Creative Writing
AB Humanities with 18 Units in Creative Writing is both a theoretical and practical course. In the curriculum, the traditional humanistic disciplines of the Arts, Literature, History, and Philosophy are complemented by extensive training in the craft of writing. Integrating Creative Writing into the Humanities degree allows students access to a wealth of culture and a variety of methods and perspectives which shape and inspire their work; ultimately, the engagement with the four disciplines allows students to develop a deep understanding of the human condition, whether from the perspective of timeless wisdom or in light of constantly changing socio-cultural realities. The course covers writing poetry, drama, narrative fiction and narrative non-fiction. In dialogue with seasoned practitioners, students develop their individual style and voice, gain experience in preparing for and revising the products of their craft, and learn how to launch their writing into the wider world.
Graduates of the Humanities with Specialization in Creative Writing Program can enter any literary or writing career, becoming authors, content writers, editors, journalists, copywriters, social media specialists, columnists, poets, screenwriters, playwrights, scriptwriters, communications directors, public relations professionals, and professors.

AB in Asia Pacific Studies
The AB in Asia Pacific Studies (ABAPS) is focused on a humanistic and interdisciplinary approach to community-building, global citizenship, and cross-cultural engagements based on Anthropology, Cultural Studies and Area Studies, or interconnections in the Asia Pacific region.
This pioneering program is designed to equip students with impact building skills needed in championing global advocacies, campaigns, action plans, and policy directives by and/or with purpose-driven Third Sector players like International Non-Government Organizations (INGOs), Philanthropies, Foundations, Think-tanks, and Community Interest Companies (CICs) across the region.
The future graduates of this program will have high autonomy, a variety of skills set, and a deep sense of fulfillment in their career pathways.
MA in Humanities
The Master of Arts in Humanities is an integrated program: students may either enroll starting from their freshman year, completing both a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in the Humanities five years, or shift from the four-year AB Humanities to add a fifth year of Master’s. MA HUM is also offered to those taking the Integrated 6-year Junior College program. To proceed and qualify for the graduate level, students must complete the undergraduate curriculum with a cumulative GWA of 2.0.
The Master of Arts in Humanities is designed to strengthen the student’s proficiency in one of the humanistic disciplines—Arts, History, Literature, and Philosophy–while complementing it with the context of the remaining three. The master’s curriculum centers on research methodology and thesis writing, developing a student’s critical thinking and communication skills while building on the base of human wisdom and experience acquired through the undergraduate Humanities courses. This training fosters big-picture thinking, deep investigation and innovative problem-solving, allowing MA Humanities graduates to create, develop and spread new ideas to meet the needs and demands of almost any field.
Since 2005, our graduates have entered and thrived in the field of law, human resources, management, education and research, the arts, media and mass communication, journalism entrepreneurship, theater, and cultural heritage. Common to these various fields is the Humanities graduate’s capacity to envision the needs of the human being that these professional enterprises serve.
