Masters in Political Economy (MPE)
Evening Program

Inspired by Oxford’s University’s Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) course, our Master in Political Economy (MPE) Program equips students with the knowledge and analytical skills needed for understanding increasingly complex social realities using multiple perspectives from politics, economics, history, philosophy and sociology, and always aware of their local and global contexts.

MPE prepares graduates to pursue professional work in the fields of politics and governance, economics, diplomacy and foreign service, development work and advocacies, business, media communications, research, and academe.

Classes are conducted on weekday evenings (6-9 pm) and on Saturdays.

​

Like all UA&P students, students in the Masters in Political Economy Evening Program are provided with personal and professional mentoring.

Coursework

Students are encouraged to take as many subjects for their coursework every semester as their schedule permits and as are available, provided they do not exceed the maximum load of twelve (12) units per semester. Coursework can be taken in any order.
 

Comprehensive Exam

Students must finish all coursework before they can be allowed to take the comprehensive examination.
 

Internship/Policy Paper

Working students will not be required to do internship, on condition that they have had at least two (2) years’ work experience. They must, however, submit a policy paper. Non-working students, and those who lack work experience, will be required to do internship.
 

Maximum Residency

Maximum residency is four (4) years, inclusive of leaves of absence (LOA). Extensions will only be allowed for meritorious reasons and upon application with the Dean.
 

Degree

Students who complete all their requirements will receive a degree of Masters in Political Economy.

  • Application Period

    • Filing for applications for the first semester of SY 2025-2026 starts on February 10, 2025 (Monday) until July 5, 2025 (Saturday).

     

    Prerequisites

    • Applicants must preferably have an undergraduate degree in political economy, political science or economics. Students with degrees from other disciplines may be admitted subject to an evaluation of their transcript. They may be required to take prerequisite undergraduate courses.

     

    Qualifications

    • Applicants must have a general weighted average (GWA) of at least 2.0 in their undergraduate course. Applicants with GWA below 2.0 but not lower than 2.25 may only be admitted on probation.

     

    Application Procedure

    • Submit two (2) copies of the duly accomplished Application Form to the SLG Office (7th Floor APEC Communications Building), or online through our E-mail (slg@uap.asia) together with one (1) copy of the following attachments:

    • Official transcript of records of undergraduate course (original)

    • Curriculum vitae

    • Photocopy of college diploma

    • For non-UA&P graduates:

      • Prospectus showing course descriptions of the undergraduate
        course

    • For foreign applicants:

      • photocopy of passport,

      • photocopy of ACR,

      • current TOEFL or IELTS score, if native language is not English

    • Proof of payment of application fee of Php1,500.00 (US$40 for foreign applicants)

     

    Once your application has been reviewed and found to be complete, you will be notified of your interview schedule.

  • Documentary Requirements:

    1. Official Transcript of Records (original)

    2. Certificate of Transfer Eligibility or Honorable Dismissal (original and photocopy)

    3. Official Transcript of Records (OTOR) with annotations / remarks “For Evaluation Purposes”

    4. Two (2) copies of duly accomplished Mentoring Form (only upon first enrollment for the school year)

     
    Additional documentary requirements for those applying for scholarship

    • Graduate Scholarship Application Form and supporting documents (see Application Procedure in “Scholarships” below)
       

    Enrollment Procedure:
    STEP 1

    • Proceed to SLG Office (look for our Program Officer – Ms. Lyla Vital)

    • Present letter of acceptance and submit the documentary requirements.

    • Proceed for program advising to determine subjects to be enlisted in.

    • Secure Registration Certificate.

    STEP 2

    • Proceed to Cashier (2nd Floor College of Arts and Sciences Building)

    • Present Registration Certificate and pay tuition and other fees.

  • Full and partial scholarships are available.

    Qualifications

    • General weighted average (GWA) of 2.0 in the undergraduate course

    • Financial need

    • Positive interview result

     

    Application Procedure

    1. Fill out the Graduate Scholarship Application Form in two (2) copies.

    2. Submit the duly accomplished Graduate Scholarship Application Form together with the required supporting documents.

     

    The School of Law and Governance may require the presentation of additional documents. All requirements should be complete in order that the application may be processed.
