With a format that is unprecedented in the Philippines, the Doctor of Philosophy in Business Economics Program (PhDBE) of UA&P, subsequently referred to as the Doctoral Program in Business Economics, seeks to explore the convergence between economics, business, and management. Business schools are increasingly employing economic methodology in analyzing cases in the functional fields of business such as marketing, analytics, strategic management, human resources, corporate governance, among others. Economic schools and departments, on the other hand, engage in analyses that span industry competition and game theory, international trade, public policy and governance, and its implications on business.
The Doctoral Program in Business Economics prepares students for a career in research and teaching that exploits the complementarities between the fields of business and economics. Thus, there is scope for interdisciplinary work, interfacing economic analyses with business strategy, finance, real estate, education, sociology, and other fields. Students will receive a rigorous quantitative academic preparation, honed in Christian social thought and business ethics, which they will apply when making strategic decisions and designing policies. The program is taught by faculty members from the UA&P School of Economics and the UA&P School of Management.
The Strategic Business Economics Program (SBEP)—UA&P’s flagship program for top executives— celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2024 as the unique executive program that combines the powerful discipline of economics with the best and cutting-edge practices of business. The program aims to equip top-brass corporate executives, high-ranking government officials, and entrepreneurs to craft innovative strategies and robust business models in the new environment.
The SBEP enhances senior executives’ capabilities in coping with the latest global, regional and local economic trends, the inevitable rise of digitalization and AI, the primal importance of leadership and human capital, in the context of rapidly evolving knowledge-based economies. The program accomplishes this by focusing on strategic thinking and governance, the discipline of economics as applied to business, best business practices, personal development, and orientation to the common good.
The SBEP’s experience of running successfully for the past 50 years has involved training more than 1,800 senior executives from 26 countries, and from hundreds of companies, not only top corporations, but also medium-sized, dynamic enterprises, professionals (lawyers, doctors, engineers, CPAs, etc.), and government officials, including the police and military. The diversity and C-suite level of the participants contribute to a truly enriching exchange of theory, experience, wisdom, and networking, all of which the SBEP alumni highly appreciate.
With a hybrid program delivery, convenient class schedule for 11 months, top-class and business-honed professors, and networking opportunities involving key government officials and business leaders, participants return to their organizations re-energized and equipped with strategies and innovative solutions leading it to success in the new global business-economic landscape.
The Strategic Business Economics Program is recognized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as a full graduate degree program offering a Master in Business Economics (MBE) and a Certificate in Business Economics (CBE).

This specialization is meant to address the current lack of a high-quality graduate education program in Values Education in the country. The Values Education (VE) major builds upon UA&P SED’s track record in Values Education, as evidenced by many MAVE graduates now serving as Values Education supervisors and teachers or as school principals. In particular, the program will provide appropriate training for ESP (Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao) teachers, especially in the proper understanding of the philosophical and anthropological foundations of Values Education. It is also appropriate for school personnel involved in guidance and counseling.
The program seeks to form early childhood educators and specialists (preschool and primary school teachers and administrators, child development consultants, and researchers) who can effectively blend theory and practice in creating positive learning opportunities and experiences for young children to promote their total development. Participants can complete the program in two years without having to give up or be released from their jobs.
Built upon SED’s strength and record in values education, the Master of Education in Educational Leadership program is meant primarily for educators who are occupying or who are being prepared for leadership and key academic and administrative positions in their schools, especially those in basic education. The curriculum for the program intertwines courses in education, psychology, and values-based leadership and management and puts all of them at the service of the key tasks of teaching, learning, and the development of students into whole persons.
The Adolescent Development and Education (ADE) program equips educators of adolescents with the competencies to address the developmental and learning needs of adolescents in and out of the classroom. Through coursework based on a balanced curriculum focusing on four strands – pedagogy, psychology, technology, and values – ADE graduate students will learn how to appropriately utilize instructional and assessment approaches and practices to support adolescents in their formation and integral development.
The ADE specialization is designed for teachers of high school and early university levels (Grades 8 to 12 and Years 1 to 2). It is also appropriate for university graduates who already hold a bachelor’s degree in a specific academic discipline or field of study and who would like to gain the pedagogical skills and knowledge of adolescent psychology needed for effective high school or college teaching. The Master of Science in Human Capital and Organization Development (MS HCOD) program intends to form Organization Development (OD) practitioners steeped in the latest OD tools, while being grounded on essential principles of human capital development—thus the tagline “an organization builder with a human capital perspective.”
While many OD certificate programs focus on the traditional diagnosis-to-evaluation process, MS HCOD couches the OD practice in a strong human capital context. This grounds OD strategies and interventions on essential human capital principles, making for a balanced reckoning of strategic outputs. For instance, beyond achieving cost and operational efficiency, rightsizing efforts (a popular OD intervention) will have to take into consideration the organization’s stock of human capital, both immediate and long-term. This makes an OD intervention truly well rounded. The Master of Science in Human Capital and Organization Development (MS HCOD) program intends to form Organization Development (OD) practitioners steeped in the latest OD tools, while being grounded on essential principles of human capital development—thus the tagline “an organization builder with a human capital perspective.”
